Holland for Kids:

Artis Zoo:
Artis, is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1838. There are two golden eagles which are perched proudly atop the main entrance, presenting one with a decidedly 19th-century atmosphere with lovely gardens, winding paths, majestic trees, sculptures as well as some  interesting historical buildings. Artis is a haven of peace and quiet in the center of Amsterdam.
It's a fascinating zoo, contained in an area of 14 hectares are about 700 species of animals and provide an excellent overview of the animal kingdom. Amphibians, reptiles, fish, birds, mammals and insects... all are superbly represented. Artis's renowned Aquarium also brings you face to face with the secret life of Amsterdam's canals.  You can also come to quench your thirst for knowledge at the Planetarium.

Rotterdam Zoo:
This is where you can start your voyage of discovery through the Rotterdam Zoo website. With its visitor count of around 1.5 million people a year (2004), Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp) is certainly one of the biggest attractions in the Netherlands.
The Oceanium is the largest project of  the Zoo to date. In the summer of 2001 this "waterworld" was officially opened. The Oceanium, includes a display of the cold regions of the Falkland Islands, home of the beautiful king penguins.
Rotterdam Zoo places at the top of its priorities nature conservation, recreation, education and applied scientific research. A most interesting place to visit.

Situated within the woods of the beautiful "Park Berg en Bos", Apenheul harbours over thirty species of primates, many of them ranging freely among the visitors. Others live on large islands where you can observe them happily going about their business. A unique experience, you will not easily forget.

Burger's Bush and Safari:

Other attractions are the rich collection of birds, the wolves' forest, the small tropical house and the magnificent rock enclosures. Associated with the zoo is the Safari Park, which visitors can tour either in the "safari train" or in their own car, passing through an African-style savanna and observing lions, giraffes, rhinoceroses and cheetahs roaming around freely in an approximation of their natural habitat.
